






1. Name
The name of this group shall be “Young Executives Group Hong Kong” – (“Y.E.G.”)
2. Object
Y.E.G. is a social group. The objective of Y.E.G. is to foster “Community Unity” by bringing
together harmony among individuals engaged in business and professional activities in Hong Kong and
foster among them a spirit of unity and friendship.
3. Meetings
Y.E.G. shall meet regularly once each month at a luncheon meeting to be held on the first Tuesday of every month except August. The Committee may at its sole discretion change the date of the regular meeting to any other day of the month or to a different hour or a different place or cancel the regular meeting of any month altogether when it falls on a public holiday or a full moon day or on Diwali or on account of any occurrence beyond the control of the Committee. If typhoon signal no.8 or higher remains hoisted at 10:00 on the day of the regular meeting, that meeting shall be postponed to the following Tuesday (one week later) subject to the discretion of the Committee referred to above.
4. Membership
There are two kinds of membership, namely: Active and Honorary; 3 kinds of Active Members; and 2 kinds of Honorary Members.
a. Active Local Member: – Each Active Local Member shall be an adult male person of good character, being an executive either in his own company or in any recognised profession. He shall be entitled to attend and to vote at all regular luncheon meetings on all resolutions properly proposed by the Committee and, in addition, he shall be entitled to attend, with his spouse or partner, all other social events organised by the Committee for its members.
b. Active Social Local Lady Member: – Each Active Social Local Lady Member shall be an adult female person of good character who is a spouse or a former spouse of not a current Active Local Member. She shall be entitled to attend all social events organised by the Committee for its Active Local members and their spouses and partners. She shall not be entitled to attend or to vote at regular luncheon meetings or any social event organised by the Committee solely for its Active Local members.
c. Active Overseas Member: – Each Active Overseas Member shall be an adult male of good character whose primary residence is outside Hong Kong and who resides in Hong Kong for less than 180 days a year or an adult female person of good character whose primary residence is outside Hong Kong and who resides in Hong Kong for less than 180 days a year and who is a spouse or a former spouse of not a current Active Local Member or Active Overseas Member. An Active Male Overseas Members shall be entitled, after payment of the prescribed guest fee for such event, to attend with his spouse all social events organised by the Committee for its Active Local members
and their spouses and partners. An Active Lady Overseas Member shall be entitled, after payment of the prescribed guest fee for such event, to attend all social events organised by the Committee for its Active Local members and their spouses and partners. Active Male Overseas Members may attend regular luncheon meetings, after payment of the prescribed guest fee for such event, but shall not be entitled to vote at regular luncheon meetings. Active Lady Overseas Members shall not be entitled to attend any regular luncheon meetings or any social event organised by the Committee solely for its Active Local members, but an Active Male Overseas Members may do so after paying the prescribed guest fee for such event.
d. Honorary Membership: – A person who has distinguished himself by meritorious service in the furtherance of the ideals of Y.E.G. may be appointed, with his consent, to be an Honorary Member either for one or more terms or for Life. The term of honorary membership is for one year from January to December. At the end of his term the Honorary Member may be re-appointed, at the discretion of the Committee, at the January regular meeting. The Honorary Member is entitled to attend regular luncheon meetings on a complimentary basis but he cannot vote at such meetings or hold any office and he must pay the prescribed guest fee if he wishes to attend other social events of Y.E.G. Upon cessation of his Honorary Membership, the person concerned shall revert to the status of Active Local Member, if he was such prior to becoming an Honorary Member.
e. Honorary Lady Life Member: – The widow of an Active Local Member who passed away while he was an Active Local Member in good standing shall be offered an appointment as Honorary Lady Life Member until such time as she remarries and, if she accepts the appointment, she shall be entitled, on a complimentary basis, to attend all social events organised by the Committee for its Active Local members and their spouses and partners. She shall not be entitled to attend or to vote at regular luncheon meetings or to attend any social event organised by the Committee solely for its Active Local members.
5. Admission Fees and Dues
a. A newly admitted Local Active Member shall pay the current admission fee of HK$88,000.00 (subject to the discretion of the Committee and subject to periodical review) plus his prorated share of the current annual subscription.
b. The current annual subscription of a Local Active Member is HK$18,000.00 per year (subject to the discretion of the Committee and subject to periodical review) payable on the 2nd day of January of each year.
c. A newly admitted Active Social Local Lady Member shall pay the current admission fee of HK$30,000 (subject to the discretion of the Committee and subject to periodical review) and a newly admitted Active Overseas Member shall pay the current admission fee of HK$10,000.00 (subject to the discretion of the Committee and subject to periodical review) plus his or her prorated share of the current annual subscription.
d. The current annual subscription of an Active Social Local Lady Member is HK$7,000 per year (subject to the discretion of the Committee and subject to periodical review) payable on the 2nd day of January of each year and the current annual subscription of an Active Overseas Member is HK$3,000.00 per year (subject to the discretion of the Committee and subject to periodical review) payable on the 2nd day of January of each year.
e. Honorary Members shall be exempted from payment of admission fees and annual dues.
6. Regulations
a. Any member who resigns from Y.E.G. is not entitled to any refund of subscriptions or to a share of the reserves of Y.E.G. He or she will not be allowed to re-join the Group for a period of 2 years. After 2 years, he or she can re-apply, in which case his or her application will be treated on the same basis as that of a new member and, on acceptance, he or she must pay the current admission fee plus his or her prorated share of the current annual subscription.
b. The Committee may in the exercise of its discretion grant Absent Member status to an Active Local Member or Active Social Local Lady Member who has left or will leave Hong Kong for a substantial period of time for business, health or family reasons. Such status may only be granted for a period of 12 calendar months from the date of departure from Hong Kong. After the expiry of Absent Member status, the member concerned must either apply to be an Active Overseas Member pursuant to paragraph 6c or tender his or her resignation. Absent member status will only be granted if the member concerned will not return to Hong Kong in the same calendar year in which he or she departed Hong Kong. Upon his or her departure the prorated share of his or her annual subscription will be returned to the member concerned and on his or her return to Hong Kong, he or she must pay his or her prorated share of the current annual subscription of the calendar year following his or her departure. If the member who is granted Absent member status returns to Hong Kong within the same calendar year as his departure from Hong Kong, he or she is liable to pay the entire annual subscription for the year notwithstanding his or her absence from Hong Kong for any part thereof.
b. Any Active Local Member who leaves Hong Kong is entitled to change his status from Active Local Member to Active Overseas Member without payment of any additional fees or dues and without any refund of annual subscription paid but he shall be obliged to pay the current annual subscription of an Active Overseas Member in the month of January of the year following his departure from Hong Kong and thereafter for so long as he remains an Active Overseas Member.
c. Any Active Male Overseas Member who comes or returns to Hong Kong is entitled to change his status from Active Overseas Member to Active Local Member without any refund of annual subscription paid but he shall be obliged to pay the difference between the current admission fee of an Active Local Member and the fee he paid to join as an Active Overseas Member as well as the current prorated annual subscription of an Active Local Member in the month of his admission as such and thereafter for so long as he remains an Active Local Member.
d. Any Active Overseas Lady Member who comes or returns to Hong Kong is entitled to change her status from Active Overseas Member to Active Social Local Lady Member without payment of any additional fees or dues or any refund of annual subscription paid but she shall be obliged to pay the current prorated annual subscription of an Active Social Local Lady Member in the month of her admission as such and thereafter for so long as she remains an Active Social Local Member.
e. Termination: – Any member failing to pay his dues within sixty days shall have his membership automatically terminated. Upon such termination the Committee shall take all such steps as it may be advised to take to recover all outstanding amounts due from the person in question. On request, such person may be reinstated at the discretion of the Committee upon payment of all outstanding dues, interest, and other fees or expenses as the Committee may determine in its absolute discretion.
f. Termination for grave and serious misconduct: – Any member who is guilty of grave and serious misconduct is liable, after due consideration by the Committee, to have his membership terminated. A criminal conviction resulting in a sentence of imprisonment that is not suspended constitutes grave and serious misconduct. Upon such termination the Committee shall take all such steps as it may be advised to take to recover all outstanding amounts, if any, due from the person in question.
g. Resignation: – The resignation of any member from Y.E.G. shall be in writing (addressed to the President or Honorary Secretary). The acceptance of such resignation does not entitle the member concerned to the return of his or her prorated share of the annual subscription from the date of acceptance of resignation nor relieve him or her of the obligation to pay any unpaid dues.
7. Method of Electing New Members
a. Before recommending any prospective new member, the proposing member should check with the Honorary Secretary or the President to ascertain if there is any vacancy for such prospective member.
b. Prospective new Local Active Members shall have attended at least two luncheon meetings, or one luncheon meeting and one social Y.E.G. event, within six months of the time when his name is proposed as a member. Other prospective Active Social Local Lady Members and Active Overseas Members shall have attended at least one luncheon meeting or one social Y.E.G. event within six months of the time when his or her name is proposed as a member.
c. The name of a prospective member, having been proposed by a member in good standing, shall be submitted by such member first to the Committee, through the Honorary Secretary or the President, giving full details of the proposed candidate.
d. The Committee, after making due investigation of the character, business or profession, social standing, and general eligibility of the person proposed for membership and, on being satisfied that he or she is a fit and proper person to be admitted as a member, shall then proceed to forward the name of the candidate to the members for their consideration and approval. If no reasoned objection to the admission of the candidate is received by the Committee from any member, then the candidate shall be accepted and admitted as a member and his or her admission shall be announced to the members at the next regular meeting. If a reasoned objection or objections to the admission of the candidate is received by the Committee, the Committee shall re-consider the application for admission in the light of the objection(s) received and may reject the application for membership or request the objector(s) to withdraw his or her objection. In the latter case, if objection is not withdrawn but the Committee is of the view that the candidate is a fit and proper person to be admitted as a member, the Committee may raise the application for admission at the next regular meeting and request members in attendance to vote on the application by secret ballot. The candidate, who shall not be present at such meeting, shall be accepted and admitted as a member if 90% or more of the members present and voting at such meeting approves his or her application.
e. The proposer shall fully inform the candidate of the privileges, responsibilities and financial commitments of a member of Y.E.G.
f. Any proposed member who has failed twice to be admitted as a member cannot re-apply for the next 5 years from the date of his or her last rejection.
8. Committee Members
a. The governing body of Y.E.G. shall be a Committee comprising of a President, a Vice President, an Honorary Secretary, an Honorary Treasurer, an Ex-Officio, who shall be the Immediate Past President, >and any number of Committee Members, who may be Past Presidents, as the President shall appoint.
b. The outgoing President in consultation with his Committee shall select and appoint from his Committee members the incoming President to serve a term of one year commencing from the first day of January of the following year. A Past President may be re-appointed as President but no President shall serve for more than two consecutive terms of one year each.
c. The outgoing President is automatically elected a Committee Member for one year as the Ex-Officio Immediate Past President.
d. The incoming President shall appoint his Committee Members who shall take office on the first day of January of the following year for a period of 12 months and who shall hold office until their successors have been elected. Each Committee Member must be a member of good standing of Y.E.G. and must have paid all his dues.
e. Quorum in all Committee Meetings is Six.
f. For all matters the decision of the Committee shall be final.
9. Duties of Committee
a. President: – It shall be the duty of the President to preside at all meetings of Y.E.G. The President in consultation with the Luncheon Meeting Convener and the Social Convener and Honorary Treasurer shall work out the details of the regular luncheon meetings and the social events for the year and present a tentative budget to his Committee.
b. Vice-President: – It shall be his duty to preside at all meetings of Y.E.G., in the absence of the President, and to perform such other duties as pertain to his office. When the President or Vice- President are not available to conduct any meetings then one of the Past Presidents on the Committee may be appointed to preside at that particular meeting.
c. Honorary Secretary: – It shall be the duty of the Honorary Secretary to ensure observance of the bye laws and that proper decorum is maintained at all regular luncheon meetings and at all social events; keep records of membership, record attendance at regular luncheon meetings (including the names of members and guests), send out notices of meetings of regular luncheon meetings, social events, and Committee meetings, record minutes of the Committee meetings, make regular reports, send annual returns to the Societies Office, and perform all other duties as usually pertain to his office. He shall also record in a log book details of new members, luncheon regular meetings and social events.
d. Honorary Treasurer: – It shall be the duty of the Honorary Treasurer to prepare, keep and maintain the accounts of Y.E.G., keep and maintain proper books and accounts, open and manage the bank account(s) of Y.E.G. and report to the Committee regularly and at any time upon demand
by the Committee, and perform all duties pertaining to his office. Upon his retirement from his office he shall hand over to his successor or to the Committee all books of accounts and all cheque books. Cheques must be signed by any two of four office bearers – President, Honorary Treasurer and two nominated Committee Members.
e. Luncheon Meeting Convener: – If appointed, the Luncheon Meeting Convener, with the help of the Committee, shall arrange guest speakers to speak to members at every regular luncheon meeting, unless it is a closed meeting, and make arrangements for members to introduce and to thank such guest speakers. He must also ensure that the relevant persons in charge of the event at the venue of the regular luncheon meeting are informed in advance of any change of regular luncheon meeting dates.
f. Social Convener: – If appointed , it shall be the duty of the Social Convener to propose and organise Social Functions and Events for the enjoyment of members, their spouses and partners, and guests, as appropriate and to report such proposals for the consideration and approval of the Committee.
g. Food and Beverage Convener: – If appointed, the Food and Beverage Convenor shall ensure the proper and timely selection of appropriate meals and beverages for all luncheon regular meetings, in consultation with the Luncheon Meeting Convener, and for all social events, in consultation with the Social Convener.
10. Appointment of Committee
a. The appointment of the incoming President for the following year shall be decided by the present President in consultation with his Committee in October and be made known to members no later than in December of that calendar year.
b. The appointment of the Committee for the following year shall be decided by the incoming
President in November and be made known to members no later than in December of that calendar year.
11. Code of Conduct
a. Any member who has a complaint against any Committee Member or any member should not discuss his grievance(s) at the regular luncheon meeting. Proper procedure requires the member to lodge a complaint in writing or verbally to the President or to any Committee Member. Upon receipt of the complaint the President will investigate the complaint and take all action as may be necessary and, where appropriate, use his best endeavours to settle the matter amicably.
b. All Members must wear a coat and tie at all regular luncheon meetings, except in the months of June and July, and must conduct themselves properly and maintain proper decorum at all times.
c. Mobile phones must be switched off at all times during all regular luncheon meetings and social events organised by YEG.
